Full Moons occur when the Moon is fully illuminated by the Sun, allowing viewers on Earth to see the full circle. It’s typically the brightest night of the month. The New Moon is the darkest night of the month, when dark side of the Moon faces Earth. We’re going on a hike on the darkest night of the month!
We will meet at the Park Office/Fire Tower Parking lot at 9pm to hike Trail 10. Please note Trail 10 should be considered very rugged in the dark and involves hiking from one of the highest elevations in the park to one of the lowest. The route is 2.2 miles and will take about two hours.
Red flashlights help us preserve night vision. We have some to lend out, but it is wise to bring your own if you have one.
Brown County State Park Naturalists’ hike cancellation policy:
Hikes will be cancelled for safety reasons. Rain by itself is not enough to cancel a hike.

Heat index above 105 degrees F
Cold below 0 degrees F
A strong wind advisory (for trails in the woods)
